Starting in 2014, small businesses have been able to participate in the Small Business Healthy Choice Program, commonly referred to as SHOP exchange. These plans include new state-based health insurance purchase pools, or CO-OPs, in which small businesses can jointly purchase group health insurance. A small business is defined as a business with 5-100 employees. Some states have created their own state-level trading markets for personal and small business health insurance. If your small business has fewer than 25 employees and provides small business group health insurance, you may be eligible for a small business tax credit of up to 50% (up to 35% for non-profit organizations) to help offset insurance costs.
