India is a major producer of cashews, with cashew cultivation covering 0.7 million hectares of land and producing over 0.8 million tonnes annually. The country is also the largest exporter of cashews, with more than 15% of the world's export share, primarily exporting cashew kernels and small quantities of cashew nutshell liquid. Cashew Cultivation in India employs over 10 lakh people in rural areas and is a significant contributor to the country's economy. The Government of India established the Cashew Export Promotion Council of India (CEPCI) in 1955 to promote cashew kernels and nutshell liquid exports and provide financial assistance to member exporters.
